Author’s recommendation

White Gold

Ever since 1925, Vorarlberg has been making good use of the Montafon’s plentiful water resources to generate green power from hydroelectric energy. The Vermunt plant in Partenen was the first to go into operation in 1930. Today, Vorarlberg Illwerke operate several pumped-storage plants in the Montafon together with the Silvretta, Kops and Vermunt reservoirs. Kops I and its auxiliary plants were constructed between 1962 and 1969. Kops II was taken into operation in 2008. The “energie.raum“ at Vallülahaus in Partenen provides an excellent documentary on hydro-generation (“White Gold“ – generation of hydro-electricity). Open daily,“kraft.raum“, “energie.kino“ and “wind.maschine“ explain how power generation works in a state-of-the-art presentation.
