Tourbeschreibung

The building culture route makes visible, using typical Montafon buildings, how the architecture is influenced by the lifestyle of the people and different economic forms. From the church, it goes downstream up the dam path, through the forest to the playground with a barbecue station, and further to the lime kiln. A paved meadow path leads to the Golmerbahn with beautiful views towards Bartholomäberg and the Rodunder lakes, then along the Ill back to the town center.

Description

At many Montafon buildings, a piece of history can be read. Traditional construction methods meet current ways of life here. Above all, the regional building culture is a mirror of different economic sectors such as tourism, energy, and agriculture. How precisely the use of natural resources, the cultural landscape, and the lifestyle of the people affect the architecture is shown by the Vandans building culture route.

Directions

Starting in the town center at the "old" and "new" church of Vandans, the path takes you downstream to the Mustergielbach. After crossing it, follow the dam crest on the left to Valkastielstraße, into which you turn left.

After a few meters, you pass the dam sluices of the Mustergielbach, built at the beginning of the 20th century to protect Vandans from mudflows and flooding. Here is also the forest playground "Gemsle," a nice playground renovated in 2019 and equipped with many great play devices. The forest provides shade in summer to relax and enjoy yourself.

Along a small footpath, it goes down a few meters again towards the town center. At the kindergarten of the municipality of Vandans, the adjacent playground invites you to rest and play. Now the path goes up a few meters again to the "Manga Hüsli," a particularly beautiful and richly decorated Montafon house, and further to the dam crest of the Rellsbach. The Rellsbach is one of the four wild streams encircling the town. Via a short meadow path, you reach the district of Innerbach directly. Past the historically significant Montafon krauthobel factory and the valley station of the Golmerbahn, the further path runs along the sidewalk up to the Rodunder reservoirs. These lakes are balancing basins for the hydropower plants operated here. On the last few meters downstream back to the town center, the cycling and walking path along the Ill invites you to stroll.
