Tourbeschreibung

Diversified circular route with notable Montafon churches in the valley as well as on the mountain. Furthermore, you will also pass the Gauenstein Monastery during your tour.
Description

This route leads you from Gantschier via Vandans up to Bartholomäberg. Here you will find a baroque parish and pilgrimage church. Historical, as Bartholomäberg was the first parish in Montafon around the year 1100. You can get interesting facts and information directly on-site around this church. The tour then takes you over a varied path that constantly changes its condition, down to the Gauenstein Monastery. The service times in the monastery are always on Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. Currently, a Capuchin lay brother is permanently on site. On the way back from the monastery to Gantschier, you will pass two viewpoints. A short pause is recommended here. A view down into the valley is always impressive, regardless of the height. Then follow the path down to Gantschier, which you were just able to view from above. Here you now have the opportunity to visit another church if you have not already done so at the start of your route.

Directions

Your route starts in Gantschier at the Catholic chapel. Here you follow Kirchstraße which then bends to the right. After a few meters, you follow the street that bends to the left, which safely leads you via an underpass to the other side of the railway tracks. Now follow the bike path to Vandans. There, turn right, cross the federal road, and follow it to the left. After the bus stop, turn right and follow Ausserböden street. Before it makes a sharp left turn, leave it straight ahead and follow a path through the forest. This path, which later alternates briefly between a street and path, is ascending and signposted. Continuously uphill, you walk over meadows and forests directly to the baroque church Bartholomäberg. After visiting the Baroque church Bartholomäberg, proceed to the Gauenstein Monastery. Its condition is similar to the ascent, alternating between path and paved road. After leaving the short but steep path right at the church behind you, continue on the Fangesweg until it ends. Over another meadow path, you finally reach the Plattaweg. Follow it a few meters to the next intersection. Here you walk to the right and after the following house, which is on the left side of the road, turn left into another path that leads you to the Grünerwaldweg. After the Grünerwaldweg makes a sharp turn to the left, follow it approximately another 150 m before following the sharp right turn. Now follow Grünerwaldweg until it ends. The ensuing path leads you always downhill to the Gauenstein Monastery. From here, follow the gravel road until it intersects. Then walk to the right and follow the path down to the valley. Once there, follow the federal road downstream to your destination, which was also the starting point.
