The snowshoe route starts at the turning area of the tunnel bus (at the Berggasthof Piz Buin). From here, you head over the distinctive dam of the Silvretta Lake. After the end of the dam, you are in open terrain and are responsible yourself for assessing the avalanche danger (avalanche emergency equipment!). After the tunnel, you walk along the right side of the Silvretta Lake. In front of you lies the highest mountain in Vorarlberg, the Piz Buin, with a height of 3,312 m. Now follow the path to the summit of the elongated lake. Here you turn into the Ochsental and walk directly towards the Piz Buin, the Ochsental glacier, and, of course, the Wiesbadener Hut. The way back is the same path.
Note:
All routes leading to or over the Wiesbadener Hut can no longer be crossed over the Silvretta Lake as in the past during the winter season. Due to the commissioning of the new pumped-storage power plant in 2019, the Silvretta Lake can no longer form a load-bearing ice cover. For ski tourers, a relatively safe winter ascent leads via the Bieltal and the Bieltaljoch to the Wiesbadener Hut. Under safe conditions, it can be decided on site whether the start across the west shore (dam, tunnel) or the east shore (dam crest) is passable.
