A continuously groomed winter hiking trail leads from Berggasthof Grabs to Latschau. But before setting off, a scenic break naturally suggests itself either at the mountain restaurant or at the alpine huts. Looking ahead, you can see the Tschagguns ski mountain Golm and the Vandanser Steinwand with the Zimba. Down the valley, the Walserkamm forms the horizon. To the north, the view stretches over the Davennagruppe to the mountains of the Verwalls, with several peaks of the Lechquellengebirge visible behind the Kristbergsattel.
The hiking path follows a forest road with some bends through mountain forest and flattens out in the treeless high valley of the Sanüel-Alpe. Soon you reach a signpost indicating the shortest way to Latschau. For a leisurely hike, however, we recommend a small detour by continuing on a nearly flat path for another ten minutes to the Volsporalpe. Here you enter the most beautiful part of the Gauertal and are rewarded with the impressive sight of the Drei Türme. Once again, one can feel a touch of nostalgia when seeing the old alpine and May huts of Volspora resting in snowy winter silence.
A little further downhill, you come to the ravine forest of the Rasafeibach. Here the path is shadier, partly steeper, but normally easily passable. Upon emerging from the forest, you pass by the uppermost houses of the small village of Latschau. From there, it is not far on the municipal road to the bus stop located between the Lünersee power plant of Illwerke and its large compensation basin. If you have time, you can learn about the special features of this power plant in an exhibition room.
